Spirit of the Hump comes to McChord
Tech. Sgt. Toby Abernathy, 62nd Maintenance Squadron corrosion control manager, applies a stencil to a 62nd Airlift Wing C-17 Globemaster III for the naming of the aircraft May 12, 2016 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. The name, “The Spirit of the Hump” comes from the airlift missions, known as flying the hump, that were flown over the Himalayan Mountains between India and China from 1943 to 1945 involving U.S. C-46 Commandos and C-47 Skytrains.
