Recent Questions

Q1. Giant Voice Volume: A crew came out to "fix" the giant voice system node at our location a few weeks ago, TRIPLING the volume of Reveille, Retreat + Anthem, & Taps. Problem: Unlike Reveille & Retreat, Taps is NOT a call to attention (which we enjoy at 0700 and 1630 without issue). Taps is designed to inspire a calming moment of peace & respectful reflection & appreciation for our brothers & sisters in arms, present & past, and prompt us to set aside our toils of the day to get some rest. The previous volume setting perfectly conveyed its solemn, respectful, even mournful/haunting message. At the new stentorian volume, it alarmingly wrenches Service members, spouses, family members, & children awake & out of bed at 2200. Solution: Very respectfully requesting that the 2200 Taps be Exempted from the system.

A1. Thank you for providing your feedback. We take concerns of McChord Field seriously, and try to provide a solution that would work best for our community. With regard to the Giant Voice, I have asked my team to lower the volume of the system and hopefully Reveille, Retreat, and Taps are now set at a more reasonable volume. There may be a few iterations before we find the right volume, I appreciate your patience.  Because, I could not agree with you more about the importance of these time-honored military traditions. As you know, each of these signifies an event rooted in military history and we are exceptionally proud to carry on that legacy and honor at McChord Field, just as other installations do across the Air Force.  Thank you for staying with us in Holiday Park and we hope you enjoy your time in the Pacific Northwest.
