Memorial Grove
A new granite marker was placed June 21, 2012 marking the location of a time capsule in the Memorial Grove on McChord Field at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. Deployed aircrew display aerial refueling capabilities
Aircrew deployed from the 62nd Airlift Wing prepare to demonstrate a C-17 Globemaster III's aerial refueling capabilities over Kyrgzystan, June 8, 2012. The crew consisted of Capt. Daniel Hellinger, Capt. David Tomlinson, 1st Lt. Sean Shay, Staff Sgt. Nicholas Cray, deployed from the 8th Airlift Squadron at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., and Airman 1st Class Clinton Robbins deployed from the 535 Airlift Squadron at Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. The crew provided more than 70 minutes of air refueling time with a KC-135 Stratotanker, which held 11 media representatives including both local Kyrgyzstan media along with international media members from Reuters and the Associated Press. The flight was designed to showcase the U.S. Air Force aerial refueling capabilities at the Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan.
