Base beautification in store for McChord
A member of Directorate of Public Works prune trees during a Historical Reset project Oct. 12, 2018 on McChord Field, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Wash. Throughout the year, a team of individuals from the Directorate of Public Works will be working diligently to address safety concerns associated with trees in the vicinity of the McChord Field, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Particularly the historical area [parade field] which consist of more than 130 trees; 90 of which were identified as safety hazards and require removal or major pruning. Members of Directorate of Public Works closed parts of Col. Joe Jackson Blvd. during a Historical Reset project Oct. 12, 2018 on McChord Field, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Wash. DPW started this beautification project in early October 2018. This project will consist of two phases. Phase 1 will focus on safety and the removal of 90 hazardous and or dead trees as well as the pruning of 60 trees along Col Joe Jackson Blvd. and Tuskegee Airman Avenues West and East. Participants of the Air force Wounded Warrior Program, play wheelchair basketball during the 2017 Joint Adaptive Sports Camp Aug. 29, 2017, at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. During Aug. 28-31, JBLM supported the 2017 JASC management team as they hosted a joint services camp at Cowan and Memorial Stadiums, and at other athletic venues across the installation. Cowan Stadium and Memorial Field was setup for all track and field events. The Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation tent was used for archery and shooting events, and Soldier’s Field House was used for swimming events. The McChord Field Fitness Center hosted basketball and volleyball, and the McChord Field seven mile jogging trail was used for the cycling events.
