U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Troy May, 62d Aircraft Maintenance Squadron heavy aircraft integrated avionics specialist, carries Ursula Bannister, a 79-year-old Tacoma resident on his back while Layton Allen and others follow and assist Bannister on the High Rock trail near Ashford, Washington, Aug. 28, 2024. Curtis and Joffre piloted the first leg of the mission, flying for 24-hours straight. The purpose of the exercise was to evaluate the 62d AW ability to coordinate and launch a maximum number of aircraft in response to a simulated combat scenario, as well as to evaluate and identify gaps in various applicable emergency plans.
