Every day I speak with dozens of people, military and civilian, on and off base.

Whether I am speaking with someone at our higher headquarters or a neighbor in the community, I never fail to mention how hard the men and women of McChord Air Force Base work to bring combat airlift to the world.

I talk about the long hours you put in to ensure you are ready to deploy where our country needs you most, the dedication of everyone on base and how intelligent and capable our Airmen are. It's not bragging if it's true.

Labor Day is a day set aside to honor the contributions workers have made to the strength and well-being of our country, and there is no one more deserving than the Airmen of McChord.

Since the beginning of the year, we have flown nearly 38,000 hours and moved more than 100,000 tons of cargo.  AMC, the Air Force and our president know they can rely on us to get the mobility mission done.

While we are all responsible for the mission, don't forget to take responsibility for yourself, and that includes taking the time to keep yourself and your family healthy and happy.

We put a great deal of care into the maintenance of our aircraft to ensure they stay mission capable.

You are the Air Force's most valuable resource, so use this Labor Day weekend to take care of yourself to ensure you stay mission capable.

Relax with your friends and family, go hiking or fishing or maybe just fall asleep in front of the TV. Do whatever relaxes and reenergizes you.

Whatever you decide to do with your weekend, plan to be safe.  I want to see everyone back here Tuesday morning happy, healthy and ready for the fight.
