Last week we had the honor of welcoming Gen. Duncan McNabb, commander of Air Mobility Command, back to McChord. During his short stay, General McNabb took the time to talk with our Airmen at an All Call where he praised Team McChord for all we have done to support the Global War on Terrorism and other contingencies around the world.

Since the Global War on Terrorism began, Team McChord has been working non-stop to bring airlift to all corners of the globe. I'm proud of every one of you for what you do.  Your service is helping to change the world. Our success is a team effort, from our Reserve associate and community partners, every member of the team is needed.

Today, Airmen from McChord will join with other local servicemembers to enjoy Foofaraw, an annual military appreciation event hosted by the Olympia Chamber of Commerce and Yacht Club. It's one day for a few of McChord's hard working Airmen to relax and enjoy the local community's support, but it's not the only one.

From sporting events to events with local chambers of commerce, throughout the year McChord gets support from the community. Thanks to our partners, McChord Airmen can rest assured that when they deploy their families will be safe and well cared for. The community's open welcome to all servicemembers also makes returning from a deployment truly feel like coming home, no matter where you're from.

It's not just the community that enables us to succeed, our partners in the Reserves and Guard are a key part of our team as well. Whether flying missions or deployed around the globe or celebrating the Air Force Ball at home, our Reserve and Guard counterparts are with us every step of the way.

On Monday, Team McChord will come together with members of our community for a commemorative ceremony to honor those who lost their lives in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. I encourage you all to attend this special ceremony at 9 a.m. at the flag pole as we pay tribute to those whose lives were cut short by the very terrorism we continue to fight today. Make no mistake, with your hard work and dedication to duty, as well as the support of our Team McChord and the American people, our Air Force will emerge victorious!
