Team McChord resumed its Combined Federal Campaign drive Oct. 1, following the government shutdown, which suspended the campaign for five days. Usually running from Oct. 1 through Dec. 15, this year's CFC will run until Jan. 15.

The CFC is a Department of Defense sponsored organization that raises funds for more than 1,600 charities worldwide. Team McChord Airmen and DOD civilians donate to numerous charities yearly through CFC.

"CFC provides an easy avenue for Airmen and DOD civilians to contribute to various charitable organization of their choice," said Capt. Theo McGee, 4th Airlift Squadron pilot and McChord's community assistance project officer for CFC. "It's a great way to positively impact the community and others outside of the walls the base."

This year, CFC is aiming to promote more face-to-face time through one-on-one briefings to provide Airmen with a better understanding of the program and what they offer, said McGee.

"You can tailor it to what interests you most," said McGee. "If you like organizations that help protect endangered species, we have them. If you want to protect the environment or help stop world hunger you can do that too."

Those who wish to donate can do so through recurring monthly payroll allotments, or by way of a one-time gift.

"The CFC is important because a lot of these charities count on our yearly support," said McGee. "It's a rewarding experience to be able to provide these organizations with the resources they need to help others."
