Airmen living in the dorms may feel far from the comforts of home, but spouses and first sergeants on McChord Field have taken it into their own hands to show the
Airmen that they are appreciated and recognized.

The McChord Field Spouses Club baked homemade cookies in the days leading up to April 17, 2015, McChord Field's first sergeants then delivered them to Airmen living in the dorms at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.

"I think an Airman's morale is critical," said Amber O'Brien, McChord Spouses Club volunteer. "The cookies can brighten their day knowing others are thinking about them."

We want to make sure that the Airmen also know that they have a support system, she added.

The club also wanted to give Airman a more comfortable feeling like being at home.

"We wanted Airman to get a taste of home, so what better way than to make homemade cookies," said Candy Martin, McChord Field Spouses Club volunteer.

For some Airmen like Airman 1st Class Iroquois Smallwood, 627th Communications Squadron network administrator, the cookie drop allowed them to have a face-to-face recognition with the first sergeants.

"It was a good way to show that they care," said Smallwood. "It helps to know that they recognize that we are here."

The first sergeants went to the dorms and handed out cookies door to door to the Airmen in their squadrons. The cookie drop also allowed the first sergeants to give back to the Airmen.

"Events like these show Airmen that there's someone always thinking about them," said Master Sgt. Brandy Hite, 62nd Comptroller Squadron first sergeant.
