The requirement to find ways to better themselves is something all Airmen understand they must strive to do. How to actually achieve that can be a little harder to understand.

The McChord Top-3 organization has implemented a committee to help improve professional development called the Total Force Development Council. The council is made up of nine members of the Top-3 and has a goal that impacts all Airmen.

"Our vision is to develop professional leaders throughout Team McChord by organizing force development seminars, events and teams to enhance leadership, management, and supervisory skills for all Airmen," said Senior Master Sgt. Michael Wynne, 62nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron assistant superintendent and TFDC Chair.

Class topics are varied and offered multiple times a month.

"We offer two professional seminars a month," said Wynne. "One is focused on a John C. Maxwell Commercial Leadership Course and the other is a locally developed course based on Air Force specific topics like progressive discipline or enlisted performance report writing and many others."

The council uses all tools available to them to get the word out about upcoming classes.

"We advertise through Top-3, first sergeants, and chief master sergeants email list," said Wynne. "We are also working on building a SharePoint site where people can go for more information."

This council is a worldwide program and is growing.

"We can't take credit for creating TFDC because it was started at Ramstein Air Base, Germany and brought here to McChord," said Wynne. "What we can take credit for is having the same passion to provide opportunities to our Airmen to better themselves both professionally and personally."

Staff Sgt. Suzanne Butler, 627th Force Support Squadron NCOIC evaluations, recently attended a TFDC course on progressive discipline.

"The class was very informational on general knowledge and understanding of how progressive discipline should but utilized," said Butler. "All the different seminars are great, especially when the instructor creates interaction with the material and the attendees it makes for a great learning experience."
