Maj. Robert Moore, 62nd Airlift Wing chief executive officer, was awarded the 2015 General Benjamin O. Davis, Jr. Military Award here July 8.

Moore was awarded for his impact in leading crews across the world to support operations such as Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn, and other humanitarian operations.

"Major Moore takes a lot of pride in the work he does, and ensures tasks get done correctly," said Capt. Elizabeth Shaw, 62nd Operations Support Squadron current operations flight commander.

The award recognizes officers who exhibit outstanding leadership and professional development.

Moore was able to reach out to other military organizations at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and within the community to create a wing operations plan. He was also chosen for his efforts in balancing training and mission requirements for the 62nd AW.

"Major Moore made an effort to ensure good communication was happening between the different sections," said Shaw. "He also spread encouragement throughout the unit and gave praise to members for doing a good job."

According to Lt. Col. Jaron Roux, 62nd OSS commander, Moore's flawless scheduling and training, his community involvement and his mentoring all made him a clear choice for the award.

During the year, Moore was also selected as the flight commander of the year, co-pilot of the year, junior company grade officer of the year, a distinguished graduate and the squadron officer school's outstanding contributor.

"From day one, Major Moore has been a leader and one to take charge," said Roux. "He knows how to get the mission done and to take care of people at the same time."

According to Moore, enjoying his job is what motivated him to get better at it.

"Do things you enjoy doing because that's going to make you better at what you're doing," said Moore. "Do things that'll motivate you."

The award will be presented to Moore during the Military Awards Luncheon Aug. 19, in Las Vegas.

"Winning the award has been very humbling," said Moore. "It has been an honor to be selected for a prestigious award and I couldn't have done it alone."
