Brig. Gen. Kip Self and members of Air Mobility Command's staff Rodeo team will arrive here Sunday for a three-day planning conference with the 62nd Airlift Wing's Rodeo staff.

General Self, commander of the Air Force Expeditionary Center at Fort Dix, N.J., became Rodeo commander recently when Maj. Gen. Scott Gray was assigned to a position at the Pentagon.

The purpose of the visit is so the 62nd AW's Rodeo team can brief the general and his staff on Rodeo plans that have been put in place and get him up to speed on everything, said Rodeo director Lt. Col. Bryan Huntsman, 62nd AW.

The team is also anxious to hear what General Self has to say about things.

"General Self is a longtime mobility officer with lots of experience," Colonel Huntsman said. "We are anxious to take any guidance that he can offer."

On Monday, General Self will tour McChord to further familiarize himself with the base and its mission and then meet with all the Rodeo planners.

The AMC team and the Rodeo staff will get together Tuesday to hammer out event logistics such as the fine details of the event including inprocessing of the Rodeo participants and how to sequence flying events with concurrent ground events.

The 62nd Services Squadron will discuss the entertainment and lodging arrangements for Rodeo, said community support flight chief Ann Rodrigue-Bailey, 62nd SVS.

Services is planning the entertainment and social events that will take place, such as the musically-themed nights, which will encompass a variety of musical genres.
