In 1962 a combat skills competition called Rodeo made its first appearance as a way to enhance air mobility operations and promote esprit de corps.

Thirty two years later McChord would host the premier air mobility event for the first time creating a standard of excellence for others to follow.

Next week, more than 55 U.S. and international teams will begin arriving on base for Rodeo 2007 ... and we're ready.

Not only is McChord set to extend an unma-tched level of hospitality to our visitors, but our Rodeo teams are geared up for competition and prepared to capture the "Best of the Best" distinction.

With 45 U.S. teams competing, including three from the Marine Corps and one from the Coast Guard, as well as international competitors from locations such as Belgium, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, there will be a lot of new faces and aircraft on our base.

As hosts, it's our responsibility to ensure our guests feel welcomed, comfortable and safe. Be sure to engage our visitors, keep the base clean and watch out for pedestrians and misguided drivers.

In addition to our competitors, there will also be a number of distinguished visitors and civic leaders observing the events and touring McChord. Keep an eye out for DV vehicles and salute as appropriate.  We have hundreds of people dedicated to making this year's Rodeo an international success.

Whether you're directly involved as a planner or volunteer, or simply an observer, be sure to present the positive image, level of excellence and team spirit Rodeo participants have come to associate with McChord throughout the years.
Hooah!
