Limited service due to exercise Published July 1, 2008 By Tyler Hemstreet Staff writer MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Long lines at some customer service agencies, emergency vehicle and personnel movement as well as possible smoke and giant voice use will likely be commonplace at McChord Wednesday due to a major accident response exercise. Other than personnel reporting for duty, base officials are asking people with routine, non-emergency business to postpone their errands until the exercise concludes. "Keeping the anticipated crowd of a quarter of a million people safe at the Air Expo 2008 is a top priority for everyone involved," said Capt. Deidre Gurry with the 62nd Airlift Wing's exercise and evaluations office. "With all the events going on at the expo, the wing is using this exercise as a chance to fine-tune the procedures and policies to be used in the event of an accident or large incident." Although the scenario is currently under wraps, the exercise will be as realistic as possible to provide the best training, Captain Gurry said. "This is essential training," she said, adding that Tuesday may not to be a good day to for people to come on base due to all the extra activity.
