The Air Force's newest C-17 Globemaster III arrived at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, McChord Field April 21. The aircraft was flown to McChord Field from the Boeing factory in Long Beach, Calif. The addition of this aircraft to McChord's fleet brings the total C-17 count here to 51.  The oldest C-17 is also currently assigned to McChord Field.  The first production model C-17 was originally delivered to Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. in 1993, but now bears the McChord tail flash.  The inherent flexibility and performance of the C-17 force improve the ability of the total airlift system to fulfill the worldwide air mobility requirements of the United States.
