McChord Nuclear Surety Inspection Published June 8, 2010 By MSgt Chris Haylett 62nd Airlift Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash -- The Nuclear Surety Program of the 62nd Airlift Wing received the highest grade possible following an evaluation by inspectors from Air Mobility Command and the Air Force Inspection Agency June 1 - 7. Seventeen inspectors from Air Mobility Command out of Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and six inspectors from the Air Force Inspection Agency at Kirkland Air Force Base, N.M., extensively evaluated the Wing's Nuclear Surety Program in the following six areas: Management and Administration; the Personnel Reliability Program; Tools, Test, Tiedown and Handling Equipment; Safety; Logistics Movement; and Emergency Exercises. Air Force and AMC officials require the highest possible standards of individual reliability and professional competence in Airmen performing duties associated with the safety, security and reliability of nuclear weapons and critical equipment. Col Thomas Freese, AMC Deputy Inspector General and Team Chief for the NSI told the Airmen of the wing: "Nobody does what you do in the DoD. There is no room for error when talking about the nuclear enterprise. Thank you for what you do. You did a phenomenal job. I will tell General Johns he has nothing to worry about." "I have never been more proud to be associated with a unit...a unit that has worked so hard, and does so well, executing this extremely important mission for our Nation" said Col. Kevin J. Kilb, the 62nd Airlift Wing commander. "You are...and continue to be...spectacular Airmen doing spectacular work. I could not be prouder of our program. McChord is the very best in this business." A Nuclear Surety Inspection is designed to evaluate a unit's ability to execute nuclear operations in a safe, secure and reliable manner.
