When Tech. Sgt. Patrick Snyder, 62nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron unit training manger, was called on stage during a routine commander's call, he had no idea what to expect.

"I thought I had done something wrong," said Sergeant Snyder. "Then the commander shook my hand and told me that I was named Air Mobility Command's training manager of the year."

From day-to-day, Sergeant Snyder's responsibilities as training manager include issuing career development course study guides, in processing new Airmen and managing upgrade training. He also briefs the First Term Airman's Course and teaches mandatory classes like Self Aid Buddy Care.

"I am basically in charge of anything that has to do with the training of aircraft maintenance Airmen," said Sergeant Snyder. "There is so much training that goes along with their career field that the leaders assign Airmen, like me, to conduct their training and ensure that it's done correctly."

From January to June of 2010, Sergeant Snyder, a native of Wichita Falls, Texas, was deployed to Manas Air Base, Kyrgyzstan. He attributes his AMC award mostly to his exceptional work ethic during the deployment.

"My job over there is very different," said Sergeant Snyder. "While deployed, I was in charge of the education office and the library. I also conducted all CLEP and DANTES testing while supervising eleven Airmen."

According to his supervisor, Senior Master Sgt. William Peoples, 62 Airlift Wing education and training functional manager, he deserves the award, not just for his outstanding accomplishments while deployed, but for being an outstanding Airman.

"It's his attention to detail and willingness to go that extra mile that put him head and shoulders above his peers," said Sergeant Peoples. "His selection as the best training manager in AMC doesn't surprise me at all. I see this guy in action every day. His recognition is well deserved and I'm sure it not the last time he'll be noted for his accomplishments. Sergeant Snyder has a very promising Air Force career ahead of him."
