The second day of Air Mobility Rodeo 2011 competitions began with the 62nd Airlift Wing and 627th Air Base Group combination team participating in several events.

The three-person Financial Management team worked through scenarios and operated in a simulated deployed environment from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

"We're encountering scenarios that we would commonly see in a deployed location," said Staff Sgt. Jaysa Schieble, Financial Management team chief. "The team has been very resourceful and we're working hard to find the right answers."

As the week progresses, the financial management team will also compete in a small arms event and a fitness course.

In addition to financial management, the Aerial Port team started off the day with a timed engine running on- and off-loading. This required the team to work with the Aircrew Rodeo team while loading and unloading a humvee and K-loader onto a C-17 Globemaster III in less than seven minutes.

"We've come very far and worked very hard to prepare ourselves," said Staff Sgt. Jason Caro, Aerial Port Rodeo team captain, before the competition. "We're ready to win."

As their co-workers cheered them on, the Aerial Port team finished up the day by using their everyday job skills and two months of Rodeo-specific training during a 10k forklift driving course and a pallet buildup competition.

Another 62nd AW and 627th ABG combo team event was the Maintenance Skills competition. The event tested a four-person team on normal daily maintenance activities that are performed at home stations.

"These are things they do every day," said Master Sgt. John Broome, 446th Airlift Wing. "They just have a bunch of pressure on their backs today."

Participants were given 30 minutes to complete eight tasks that need to be executed with proficiency and under Air Force guidelines, such as inspections, vehicle movement and aircraft maintenance to receive maximum points.

During the week of Rodeo 2011, these Airmen will continue to compete against teams from around the world in events that focus on mission readiness, featuring airdrops, aerial refueling and other events that showcase the skills of mobility crews.
