A major road construction project on Perimeter Road, the road which bisects JBLM Lewis-Main and McChord Field, will begin April 1 and last through May. The construction will close access to civilian commuter and commercial vehicle traffic that uses Perimeter Road and 150th Street Southwest as a thoroughfare to commute between Spanaway and Interstate 5.

The eight week road construction project will involve adding paved shoulders, repairing cracks and potholes, and repaving the road surface. Construction is expected to be completed by May 31, however, all road construction paving projects are weather dependent and subject to change as the weather conditions dictate.

On JBLM McChord Field, the Barnes Gate and Logistics Gate will be closed during construction.

*Vehicles that normally enter McChord Field through the Barnes Gate will use the East Gate, which is located at the intersection of Military Road and Perimeter Road.

*Commercial vehicles that normally enter the McChord Field Logistics Gate will use the McChord Field North Gate, which is located at the intersection of South Tacoma Way and 112th Street. No privately owned vehicles will be allowed to enter the JBLM McChord Field North Gate.

On JBLM Lewis-Main, military and civilian employees will have limited access to the Rainier Gate for morning and afternoon commuter traffic during road construction at the following times:

*Morning, inbound traffic only 5-7:30 a.m.

*Afternoon, outbound traffic only 4-7 p.m.

Perimeter Road and the Rainier Gate will be closed to all vehicle traffic between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and all day Saturdays, Sundays and holidays during the construction project.

Signs indicating closures and detours will be in place to alert drivers.

JBLM officials are working to maintain the same level of service for drivers entering and exiting the base.
