62nd MXG celebrates Log Fest excellence Published April 24, 2013 By Airman 1st Class Jacob Jimenez 62nd Airlift Wing Public Affairs JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. -- The 62nd Maintenance Group hosted their 2012 Log Fest, an annual awards banquet designed to recognize the "best of the best," April 12. During the event, more than 20 personnel from the 62nd MXG were presented with awards and one Airman took home the Top Knucklebuster Award. The Knucklebuster Award is different from other awards because the nominees are selected by their peers. Prior to Log Fest, Airmen and civilians from the 62nd MXG's four squadrons nominate Knucklebusters to compete for the Top Knucklebuster Award, given at the end of the evening. "To be selected as the Top Knucklebuster shows hard work, dedication, teamwork, leadership, and most of all, being above the standard," said 1st Lt. Joseph Crisostomo, 62nd Air Ground Equipment flight commander. "A Knucklebuster encompass all the qualities of leader." While the banquet highlighted outstanding performers, it was also a time to bring together all squadrons under the 62nd MXG and thank everyone for their hard work. "Log Fest was a great opportunity for the maintenance community to come together in a comfortable setting and enjoy each other's company," said Senior Airman Kyle Stringer, 62nd Maintenance Squadron aerospace maintenance journeyman. "It also provided a great atmosphere to meet and socialize with more people from other maintenance career fields." More than 430 McChord Airmen and family members attended this year's Log Fest. Festivities of the night included a raffle as well as a game of jeopardy between commanders and Airmen. "I've been planning events like these for more than eight years and have never seen one go so well," said Staff Sgt. Andrea Roberts, 62nd Maintenance Operations Squadron maintenance scheduler. "A lot of people told me this was one of the best Log Fest they've been too." A cherished long time tradition among maintainers, planning for the event began three months in advance. A host of 62nd MXG volunteers put forth extensive effort to make the event a night to remember. "This is important to help bring moral up throughout the unit as a whole," said Roberts. "I think it's essential to recognize and thank Airmen through events like these so they know that we notice their hard work, and that they are more than just a number." Crisostomo said that 62nd MXG's leadership was invested in giving their Airman a first-class Log Fest.
