Maj. Kimberlyann P. Berger is the Commander, 627th Communications Squadron, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. As commander, Maj. Berger is responsible for organizing, training, equipping, and leading 140+ Airman and civilian personnel supporting combatant command requirements and providing command, control, communications, and computer support to the largest joint base in the Department of Defense, totaling over forty-nine thousand joint personnel. Additionally, she is also responsible for the operation and execution of the Executive Airlift Communications Network (EACN) mission, providing 24/7 secure/non-secure communication services in support of POTUS, VPOTUS, SECSTATE, SECDEF, CCDRs, Joint Chiefs and other national senior leaders.
Maj. Berger was commissioned in 2008 as a graduate of the University of Washington Reserve Officer Training Corps. Since her commission, Maj. Berger has served in varying squadron positions including Director of Operations for the 375th Communications Support Squadron, Scott Air Force Base, Ill., and Director of Plans and Programs at the 752d Operations Support Squadron, Tinker AFB, Okla. Her joint experiences include operational planning and cyber capabilities integration at Headquarters U.S. Central Command Communications, MacDill AFB, Fla., and senior Communications officer for the 405th Expeditionary Group, Thumrait Air Base, Oman. Additional experiences include cyber incident response for Air Force program of record weapons systems and Air Force operational test and evaluation for newly fielded systems. Prior to her current position, Maj. Berger was a member of the Commander’s Action Group for Air Mobility Command as well as the Executive Officer, Directorate of Communications at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. She was responsible for direct, daily support for the Commander including directing Major Command projects and preparing senior staff for strategic level communications and congressional engagements to meet 4-star intent and directives for 114,000 Total Force Airmen and 1,100 aircraft around the globe.
