Lieutenant Colonel DEREK GREGORY

Lieutenant Colonel Derek A. Gregory is dual hatted as Deputy Director, Directorate of Public Works and Commander, 627th Civil Engineer Squadron on Joint Base Lewis McChord. In these roles, he leads 400 civilians and 120 Airmen in the maintenance, repair, sustainment and operations of the infrastructure and facilities on the largest Army-led Joint Base with a $15.3B plant replacement value. Joint Base Lewis McChord serves as a Department of Defense power projection platform for the Army’s I Corps and the Air Force’s 62d Airlift Wing along with a myriad of other sister service and special operations units. Additionally, he is also responsible for the full spectrum readiness and training of more than 4,000 Airman on McChord Field to equip them with the knowledge to survive and operate in contested or contaminated environments.

Lt Col Gregory received his commission in 2006 from the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. A career civil engineer, he has held positions at the squadron, group, wing, major command and sub-unified combatant command levels. His contingency experience includes deployments in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and the Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa.

Prior to this assignment, Lt Col Gregory was the Commander, 422d Civil Engineer Squadron, RAF Croughton, United Kingdom, where he was responsible for construction, maintenance, environmental protection and fire prevention across six geographically separated installations.  Additionally, he was responsible for providing fire and emergency medical response, including aircraft rescue and fire fighting for the only bomber forward operating location in the European theater.
