As snow and cold weather starts to give way to sunnier days, the intramural sports season will offer more options for Airmen to get out and compete.

Volleyball, soccer and golf are on the horizon.

Letters of intent for registering teams for volleyball and soccer are due March 16, while letters of intent for golf are due April 20, according to the 62nd Services Squadron's Web site.

Soccer games will take place at Rainier Field and volleyball matches will be played at the fitness center. All golf matches will take place at Whispering Firs Golf Course. Players will have to pay their own greens fees, Sergeant Naranjo said.

Last year there were 11 teams that participated in soccer and 14 teams that participated in volleyball, said Tech. Sgt. Enrique Naranjo, 62nd SVS.

"Those are pretty good participation numbers," Sergeant Naranjo said.

62nd SVS hopes to have similar numbers this year, depending on how many Airmen have temporary duty assignments, he said.

While most intramural basketball teams are dominated by male Airmen, Sergeant Naranjo said volleyball and soccer at McChord tend to have more female players who participate.

For the female Airmen who wish to compete against other women, Fort Lewis hosts women's volleyball, soccer and softball in the spring. The letter of intent for the women's soccer league is due Feb. 28, while the women's volleyball letter is due March 20. The women's softball letter of intent is due May 7. All of the women's intramural games will be played at the Fort Lewis Soldier's Field House.
