LRS team gets back on track Published Jan. 18, 2007 By Tyler Hemstreet 62nd Airlift Wing Public Affairs MCCHORD AIR FORCE BASE, Wash. -- Utilizing sniper-like long range accuracy, the 62nd Logistics Readiness Squadron intramural basketball team earned its first win of the season by defeating the 8th Airlift Squadron, 47-31, Tuesday night at the fitness center. LRS torched the 8 AS from downtown, making nine 3-pointers in the game. Point guard Cyle Grieve led the way with 17 points, hitting five 3's in all. "We've got a bunch of short guys, so we just have to use what we can," Grieve said. "[Tonight] we played hard." LRS (1-1) used its long-range shooting ability to build an early 20-10 lead as Grieve and Tyson Dunigan (12 points) hit two 3-pointers apiece. Another 3-pointer by Dunigan with a little less than six minutes left in the half gave LRS its largest lead at 24-12. But 8 AS was able to narrow the gap to 27-21 in the waning moments of the half on Douglas Rottier dunk. The hot shooting continued for LRS in the second half as it ran off a 13-0 run right out of the gate. Again, Grieve played a vital role, hitting two 3-pointers in the scoring outburst. The 8th AS (1-1) couldn't counter with a run of its own and LRS coasted to a 16-point victory. "We got blown out last week," said Dunigan, recalling the 77-28 loss on Jan. 9 at the hands of the 62nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron team. "We had to come out with a vengeance this game." Despite his team's ability to hit shots from the outside against the 8 AS team, Dunigan said there is always room for a bit more passing and a smoother game plan. "Once we get more practices in I think we'll play better as a team and get the job done with a better style of basketball," he said. James Schwertman led 8 AS with 11 points and Rottier finished with nine.
