5th ASOS Change of Command 2026

U.S. Airmen and civilians of the 5th Air Support Operations Squadron gathered with friends and families during a 5th ASOS change of command ceremony at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, June 15, 2026. U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. John Grucella, 5th ASOS outgoing commander, relinquished command of the squadron to Lt. Col. Craig Lower, 5th ASOS commander, closing out a successful two-year tenure.

Col. Michael Primiano, 1st Air Support Operations Group commander, presided over the ceremony, remarking on the leadership and diligence of both Grucella and Lower, wishing them well in their future endeavors. The 5th ASOS is a special warfare unit tasked with directly communicating and controlling tactical air support in the field to aid active combat operations.
