JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. --

U.S. Air Force aircraft fuel systems technicians with the 62d Maintenance Squadron and 446th Maintenance Squadron, conduct a jettison butterfly valve operational checkout at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Aug. 23, 2023.

This operational checkout ensures fuel dumps are working properly so a C-17 Globemaster III can offload fuel quickly if needed to maintain proper weight requirements for safe takeoffs and landings.

The 62d MXS and 446th MXS often work hand-in-hand to provide superior maintenance to the 62d Airlift Wing’s fleet of 40 C-17 Globemaster IIIs.
