62nd Operations Group unit patchThe 62d Operations Group encompasses more than 730 active duty military and civilian personnel across four squadrons and a broad spectrum of specialties. In partnership with the 446th OG, the 62d OG operates a fleet of 40 C-17A Globemaster III aircraft worth over $6 billion. Their operational mission focuses primarily on the support of worldwide combat airlift, humanitarian airlift and airdrop operations. The group has the distinction of being the only Prime Nuclear Airlift Force in support of the Department of Defense and Department of Energy. Additionally, the 62d OG supports the National Science Foundation through the U.S. Antarctic Program. The group also provides support services critical to airlift operations including airfield management and control, aircrew flight equipment, weather forecasting, intelligence, tactics, and aircrew training.
