The POW/MIA flag is displayed at the 24-hour POW/MIA Remembrance Run at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Sept. 15, 2021. The official U.S. POW/MIA flag was created through the efforts of family members of POW/MIA Americans to display a suitable symbol that made the public aware of their loved ones who were being held prisoner or declared missing during the Vietnam War.
