De-icing the T-Tail

Staff Sgt. Mitchell Johnson, 62nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron crew chief, sprays de-icing fluid onto the tail of a C-17 Globemaster III Dec. 20, 2013, following a snowstorm at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash. The de-icing fluid removes and prevents further accumulation of snow and ice, which could severely affect the aircraft's ability to provide lift and maneuver safely if not treated.
