JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. -- Recently, U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff, Gen. David W. Allvin instructed service-wide Risk Management training be conducted and Team McChord held an All-Call Sept. 9, 2024, to meet this requirement.
The training was led by Col. Michael Thompson, 62d Maintenance Group commander, and executed by Maj. Daniel Richardson, 62d Airlift Wing chief of safety.
“This All-Call was in response to a CSAF directed stand-up day to discuss how we, as a service, integrate risk management into readiness,” said Richardson. “While we are transforming and evolving as a force to compete globally against potential adversaries, we must better understand how to think about risk on a daily basis.”
The training is intended to continue the development of ready Airmen who can safely focus on technical and tactical competence.
“Decision making will be delegated to a lower echelon to be able to operate in a distributed fashion to meet Commander’s intent in our future warfighting concepts,” said Richardson. “This requires Airmen of all ranks and positions to understand how to analyze risk both in real time and through deliberate planning to make the appropriate decision that is informed by risk versus avoiding the risk altogether. This stand-up day will allow all units and installations the opportunity to re-focus and take time to prioritize operational discipline and ensure complacency is not present in our service culture.”
Operational discipline is foundational to Air Force mission readiness. The goal of the Risk and Readiness All-Call is to train all Airmen on risk management concepts and tools to increase readiness and build an operational force that understands and integrates risk management and operational discipline into training, exercises, and combat operations.
